Election 2008

I haven't talked on here at all about politics or the upcoming elections. To be honest, I haven't been nearly as involved as I was during the last election, nor as involved in general as I should be. However, here is my opinion and who I plan on voting for.

A quick history on myself and politics (it's not much)... 4 years ago, during election 2004, I worked for the Republican party. I wasn't all that involved in politics prior to that, and actually, it was an assignment for my government class. In working for the Republican party, I've learned what I do and don't like, from both parties. I did ultimately discover I identify most with the Democratic party.

So, now, it's Obama vs McCain. Young vs. Old. Black vs. White. There are some huge differences in this election season and I'm pleased. Both are good candidates. However, I lean most towards Obama and here's why.

Obama has put forth a lot of great ideas on the table to better the economy, health care, education, etc. I love Obama's plan to better health insurance. I absolutely disagree with McCain's plan to tax our insurance. Even though he wants to offer the People $5,000 upfront, the tax on the insurance is going to cost us more. It's ridiculous. Obama's plan will help those without insurance, and not hurt those who have insurance already through their companies. His plan is intricate, and it sounds much more promising than McCain's.

Obama's plan on education is great too. The 'No Child Left Behind' act is a joke. Obama was right when pointing out that our education isn't strictly in the schools. A lot of it is home life as well. Take a look at the other countries. They don't let their kids sit around all evening eating potato chips and watching Disney. This makes a huge difference in test scores. However, Obama's plan to give kids and young adults the opportunity to further their education is effective. Giving young adults the resource to go to college, get a degree, work for the county, will better our economy. It's a huge circle that McCain seems to not see. Talking about opening up more activity centers and what not is great, but that's not going to help us in the long run...

Big businesses. This is why I cannot stand the republican party. McCain whines about Obama taxing big businesses more than those who don't make as much. I agree with Obama, you rich people can afford it. Poor people, working people (ME) can't. This is why I view republicans (at least in this aspect) as greedy. Yes, rich people work hard to be where they're at. Some rich people think poor people are lazy, that's not always the case. Yes, it is in some situations, but in most it's not. I would be considered your lower middle class working person. Is it cuz I'm lazy? Hell no. I probably work harder than most of those rich people out there. It's because I chose to do a job, which betters the country believe it or not, and I get paid less to do it. But guess what? I have the same expenses as the rich people do. Which, in the end, leaves me with much less, especially with as much tax as I'm paying.

Also, might I add, watching the presidential debates always gives me a feel for the candidate. How they hold themselves and react during the debate is a good indicator on how this person is and how they'll react in office. McCain was most disappointing. His demeanor was arrogant, and he was constantly attacking Obama. I didn't see this from Obama, at all. Obama kept his cool, showed his point, and it was most impressive. This in and of itself reaffirmed my decision to vote for Obama. McCain's demeanor reminded me too much of Bush's arrogance and closed mindedness. As everyone who knows me know- I cannot STAND Bush.

Yes, there are some things I don't agree with Obama- such as his view on abortion. I believe a woman should have the right to make decisions for herself, for her body, as Obama belives. I'm glad Obama is against late term abortion. However, I lean more towards pro-life. I'm afraid that abortion will become a type of birth control, as I've already seen it becoming. That is wrong. I think there should be huge stipulations on abortion, but that is not in place, yet.

Anyway, there's my opinion. I'll keep it short. My vote goes for Obama. It's not a race thing, it's not an age thing. It's who I think will do well and better this country. It's awesome he's different, it's awesome he is black. I won't deny that. He and I have much in common (we are both mixed, both of our dad's are from Africa, I'm from Kansas, his mom's from KS, so's mine. Both are mom's are white...). BUT, that is not why I'm voting for him. I think he will do well, in all aspects.

To Those Who Read This- We might have different opinions. Maybe some of you are die hard republicans. Maybe some of you hate Obama about as much as I hate Bush (I don't hate McCain nearly as much, but he's not on the top of my list either). But let me remind you, my blog, my opinions. I don't mind a comment or two on your opinions because I am open minded, I just don't want any attacks on here. If they are disrespectful in any way, or attacking how I feel, they'll be deleted. Just an FYI.

i have to be honest and tell you that 1 of the biggest reasons i will probably vote mccain is the abortion issue. it's a place where i just can't settle. this election is alot like other elections where i feel like i'm having to choose from the "lesser of 2 evils" not that i think either candidate is evil, but i don't really like either of them either. i don't like either of their tax ideas either. (i seem to like that word today!!)

Well I despise McSame, but I despise Failin' more. She's too dangerous and she has zero experience. Being the governor of a state w/ a total pop. of 650,000 does not make her experienced. the Mayor of Seattle has more constituents. He would be one malignant melanoma away from HER being our president and I don't see her going toe to toe w/ North Korea or the Middle East.

As to the abortion issue, I am and have always been Pro Choice, marched in protests, etc. That said, I am 100% against late term abortions unless the mother's life is endangered. I do not believe that it should be used as birth control, but I also understand that sometimes mistakes happen.

And women are raped or girls molested and impregnated, and it's not fair to put a woman thru the psychological torture of bearing a child she despises and doesn't want. Even if she puts it up for adoption, her mental and emotional state will be shot for a good long time. Abortion needs to be a legal, viable option.

Kris - If you truly don't like McCain but can't support Obama b/c of the abortion issue, PLEASE don't vote at all. My mom's not voting for Pres. and neither are my inlaws who are very much right wing. They don't like McCain either.

BUT, just to show you that I am a fair voter, I am crossing party lines and voting Republican for governor!! :)
