I Feel Good

Day 2 alone. It was good. I was what I expected to be- the wild car. Typically when it's your Friday, you're wild. It's nice. You get to go wherever you want in the city. The only thing is, when one officer leaves his district, whether it's to go to the station to work on a report or on a call that might take awhile, you have to cover the district until he's back. There was a bit of that today but not much.

I was the first unit out. Everyone else had some type of report they had to complete before goin out on the streets. About 20 minutes after going in service and driving around, I get a call from my sergeant over the radio wanting to meet me. My sergeant had yesterday off, so technically today's my first day with him. We ended up meeting in a parking lot and he immediately congratulated me on my completion of FTO. He welcomed me to his crew and lined out what he expects, told me what type of supervisor he is, gave me his phone number for reference if I have ANY questions what so ever. I feel very comfortable with my sergeant. I do know he is tough. He used to be an FTO, so he has the personality of a trainer, and I know he expects a lot (especially because of the FTOs I've had). But, I also know that he is very smart and while I was with P4, we were under him for a bit, so I already had a taste of what he's like. I'm not at all concerned with the type of supervisor he is. He communicates well and I think that is very important. At least it is for me. I know he's strict about reports (oh do I know) and he's a traffic-oriented sergeant, but hey, I'm glad to be on his crew. Plus, he got brownie points for selling me his beautiful 52inch projection screen TV :).

So, I actually got DISPATCHED to a call today! Woohoo! It was towards the end of my shift, and it was to a dog bite. Lol! That's typically the animal control officer's department, but they were all gone. So, since I was the closest, I took it. When I got back to the station, a couple officers were teasin me a bit but then in all seriousness said, 'We're glad it was you that took the call, because we really didn't know how to handle it'. I was prepared. I remembered at about the beginning of training, I grabbed a copy of an animal bite form and added it to my paperwork that I keep in my duty bag(I carry all the forms I could possibly need in a nice filed notebook that I keep in my duty bag). So, I ended up getting kudos for how well I handled it. Not to mention, the victim and dog owner and everybody complimented me on how nice I was to them. I get that a lot from citizens and it feels good.

I also spend a good hour or so sitting on a car. There is a car that was sort of abandoned in a neighborhood. Well, the car comes back to a suspect for car jackings, burglaries, and all sorts of stuff. So, now we have an officer sitting on that car at all times, waiting for the people to come pick it up. It's actually a nice car too. So, I spent a good hour eatin dinner, playing on the computer...

After work I went running with an officer from my crew. That was nice. We ran about 2 miles total and had good conversation. The officer I ran with is named Matt. He's such a nice guy and I'm glad we worked out together. Hopefully we can do it more often.

I did not see my firefighter today (yeah so now he's called 'my firefighter'... Lol). I guess he didn't work today. I did stop by that station and met a new set of firemen. They're all so friendly :). They invited me to dinner but I ended up getting busy. Oh well.

Alright, I've talked too much. It's about 2am and I need to go to bed! I have orientation for school tomorrow (it's some online orientation thing I have to go to) so I better rest up!
