The day before yesterday (So on Tuesday), I received a grand total of 12 hours of sleep. Yesterday I received a total of 5 hours. Today, I slept a total of 11 hours. Yeah, I'm shocked too. I went to bed at 1am and woke up at 12pm. I even set an alarm for 10am (that would've been a nice 9 hours) but apparently I never heard it go off. Or I did and don't remember. Crazy.
Yesterday was the first day all on my own. Let me tell you, I was nervous. My first car stop on my own was for somethin stupid, but I purposely did it because I needed to get the nerves out. Missouri requires a license plate on both the front and back of the vehicle, Kansas only requires one on the back. I saw a girl drive by with only one Missouri tag on the back. That is an improper display of a tag, so I pulled her over. My heart was pounding. Of course I gave her a warning. She was like 18 and completely oblivious and I figured she didn't need a $200.00 ticket. So, I got that out of the way.
I was in the southern district all shift and seriously did not get ONE dispatched call. Not an alarm call, not a 911 hang up, nothing. The only thing I got called for service was people doing construction on a road when the construction wasn't supposed to start until this weekend. Boohoo. I didn't really do anything. I just said hi to the guys, asked what they were doing, they said preparing for the weekend, so I left. Simple.
Of course the other districts had loads of stuff to do. One officer had a motorcycle run from him when he tried pulling them over, so he followed them and found them at a bar. A couple other officers get dispatched to a disturbance. Some kids were bangin on this guy's door, ended up damaging the door and cutting their hand. Then as I'm callin it a day, an armed robbery comes out. I didn't go to that one, I was definitely not close enough and it was during shift change, so the midnight guys went.
Here I am complaining, and I really shouldn't. Because I'll probably get a bunch of crap today. I just pray I do this right. So far so good. And I know my sergeant and corporal will help me out. My corporal was extremely helpful last night and I knew he was shadowing me because on that map I could see that he hardly left my district. The MPO on duty (Master Patrol Officer, who was also my Phase 3, Part 2 FTO) also drove by one of my car stops. So, I know they're watching me and it's actually comforting. They know I'm new all by myself and am a bit intimidated.
Plus, it didn't help that the Lieutenant came to roll call yesterday and announced to everyone to listen on the radio for my first car stop cuz I'll be so nervous I'll screw it up. Lol. I didn't screw it up completely. I did call her a white male when she was a white female though...
So anyway, yesterday's done and here's today. Today is my Friday and I wonder if I'll be the wild car out. That's typically how it works. I hope I am so I can stop by the firestation and see my favorite fireman :).
Wish me luck!
