My Sister Graduated!

It has been a little bit since I've last updated this blog. There isn't much to update. I've been keeping myself busy with work. My biggest struggle right now is geography. I know major streets, block numbers, and some major side streets, but once I get into a really windy neighborhood I get turned around. My FTO tells me that I have been improving in this area, and that I'm where I should be at in this program, but I tend to put a lot of stress on myself and disagree with him. Also, I take my radio home and just listen in on the radio traffic. It'll help me get used to listening to where everybody's at and what everybody's doing while I do my own thing.

Other then that, nothing else is really new. My friends, the dispatcher, PSO, and court clerk and I, are starting to go out again. Which is good because I've missed them. Nothing like a good dinner, drink and movie after a long, stressful week at work.

My sister graduated high school this past Sunday. Her graduation was held at the Allen Field House (on the KU campus. It's where the KU basketball team plays). I actually didnt like the fact that it was held there because it was so hot and muggy inside. We were all pretty miserable sitting in there. Normally it would've been held at Memorial Stadium (where mine was held), which is also on campus where the KU football team plays, but for some odd reason it wasn't. It was a good graduation, I still can't believe she's graduated (and in one of my classes next semester!!). It just doesn't seem....right. It's good to see she's accomplished high school and I really do hope the best for her college years.

Did I mention that the Fred Phelps group was protesting the graduation? I wasn't all that surprised to see them there. The Phelps group tends to go to a lot of our functions in Lawrence or in Kansas City. They just hate every body. Apparently all of the LHS grads, alumn, family and friends are going to hell. So, that covered everybody there that day. I will end this on a quick little story my sister told me of what happened that day with the protestors...

(These are some of the many signs they hold up)

***My sister and her friend are walking to the entrance of the Allen Field House. My sister is wearing her beautiful brown and white dress with her gown on over it. Her friend is wearing more of a casual outfit, shorts and a tshirt with her black gown hanging open over it. The friend's hair is brown and cut boy cut short. Her demeanor screams masculine, something she prefers since she herself is interested in women.

My sister and the friend just start to pass the protestors when one screams out to the friend, "You look like a boy! You're a lesbo! You're going to hell!"

The friend turns around, and just when my sister reaches to grab the friend, to hopefully prevent the fight she knew was coming, the friend screams, "I can't help it! I have cancer!!"

The protestors stop and stare at the ground, each and every one of their face's going red. ***
