"Bad guys do what good guys dream." -Detective Goren
Is that true? Maybe. I still think it's kick ass being the good guy though. :)
So, I'm officially done with Phase I of FTO. There are 5 Phases in the program, and I have 5 FTOs. Phase I and Phase V are the same FTO. I have 2 for Phase III, mainly because of shift scheduling. But anyway, here's what I thought about it.
My Phase I FTO was very easy going. He was very friendly, social, and much like a mentor and teacher. His teaching styles were very effective and I'm very glad I had him as an FTO (especially since he has resigned from being an FTO and I'm his last trainee). He let me take charge, and he took charge when the time called for it. I will be excited to go back to him as my Phase V FTO, if he still is doing it by then.
My Phase II FTO is much more....military. However, I hear he is also very effective. A friend of mine had said very good things about him. She said he is a stickler and a little old school, but, will teach me how it is. So, I'm a little nervous to have him as an FTO because I'm going from an easy going guy to a stickler, but at the same time, I've had a chance to get to know him a little bit previous to this and I already get the vibe that he'll be a good teacher. I just forsee some frustrating days, but learning experiences.
My Phase III FTOs... I have rode with one of them quite a bit while in the academy. He was one of the guys I wanted as an FTO when I got out and I'm glad I have him. He is quiet, and really our personalities are opposites, but every time I was with him he taught me a lot. We also have more in common than anyone would've guessed (we both are big readers and we both like classical music, who would've thought?). The other FTO I have for Phase III, which is only a week long, I don't know on a personal level. Though I'm told he is also an easy going person (probably not as much as my Phase I FTO though).
My Phase IV FTO is probably what I'm most nervous for. I hear he is very strict. I've had the chance to get to know him just a little bit, but I don't think he'll act the same while he acts as my FTO. When I got to know him on a personal level... Well, I guess you'd say he's the heartthrob of the department (at least to all the females that work there). And I see why. Pretty green/blue eyes, low voice, flirtacious, yeah, I see why. But, all that is out the door when we're working. And what I hear about him on a working level is he is just a lot more old school. I have him for 3 weeks in this phase. Again, we'll see how that goes.
Phase V- I'm back with my original FTO. He's a great guy so I'm not sweatin it too much.
Basically, what I expect out of this program, which hopefully will end around the first week of August if I have no troubles and there are no sick/vacation days, is fairness in training and respect. There's stuff I do know from the academy and personal knowledge, but there's a lot more that I don't know. And with that, I want to be able to gain the most out of it. Also, I want to be treated fairly. That's all I ask and expect. Here I go onto Phase II.

I'm sure you'll do just fine. I admire you for going into policework.
Do you think that, eventually, you will make detective? If so, how long till you can do that? Are you still interested in SVU work?
i'm still interested in doing detective work. however, it's a hard position to get in to working in this department. so, it'll probably be a long time before im able to be promoted into it.
