So, they bring out this dog who I just fell in love with at first sight. His name is Val. I don't know what kind of dog he is. He looks like a golden/red haired lab, but he's smaller than a full grown lab, but he's an adult. He weighs probably 35 pounds. The hospital told me that I can take him home for the weekend to get a feel if this would work out. So far, it's been great. I took him on a walk and both he and I enjoyed it. Never did he pull me, he just followed my lead. I then took him to the animal store to get him a food/water bowl, a brush (he's shedding like crazy) and some shampoo. When he was around the other dogs he behaved himself really well. He never once barked. I then got home and gave him a bath and he just stood there and let me wash him, so I have a feeling he's a water dog (I hear that labs are....). My cat hates him and won't stay in the same room as him, though Val never once barked at him. He just looked at him. Of course there are cats everywhere at the animal hospital, so I think he's used to other species.
Anyway, he won't go anywhere without me. I was moving boxes into my storage unit last night and he refused to wait inside. I got nervous at first because he wasn't on a leash, but he just followed me all the way to the storage unit (which was in the basement of the apartment complex) and followed me up all excited. Last night he cuddled with me all night. It was just great. I love him. Even if I have to pay the adoption fee, I want him here with me. I don't understand how anybody wouldn't want him.
I want to rename him though. Either Link or Liam. My mom told me that since he's an adult, it's not wise to rename him. *sigh* He never responds to his name when I call him. He responds to my whistles. So, I don't know.... I'd really like to rename him but I don't want to cause confusion to him.... We'll see.
I have to drop him off at the animal hospital on Monday before work. Then I'm going to come back after work and adopt him. Looks like my kitty's gonna have to make a new friend regardless if he wants to :P.
I found this picture just after I finished this post and I think this looks most like him, he's just smaller :).

I am SO happy to hear that you've opened your home and heart to a sweet doggie in need. As the mom to 2 adoptees, I really believe that they know and appreciate that their life has been saved.
I don't think you'll have a problem changing his name. We have so many nicknames for our dogs that they respond to all of them!!!
